What makes GRIMM'S so special? - A company with a vision

We focus on children and childhood. Open-ended play is a central concept in our daily activities and is extremely important for healthy child development. Equally important for healthy child development is an environment that gives the child space to unfold.

The foundations for a person's self-confidence and resilience are laid in childhood. Even as adults, we still benefit from a childhood in which we were able to try out and experience our potential in loving security and creative freedom.

That's why we promote open-ended play with our play materials and a child-friendly environment with our children's furniture for a good future for us and our children!

These 6 points make GRIMM'S special:

• Tradition & quality

 Educationally valuable

 • Safety & trust

 • Naturalness & sustainability

 • Design & system

 • Cross-age diversity

Tradition & Quality

GRIMM'S is a family-run wooden manufactory in which high-quality and special play materials and furniture are made by hand.

Handcrafted with great attention to detail

Our family business has been in existence since 1978 and produces exclusively in Europe with loving craftsmanship and very high quality standards. Our many years of experience in the field of play materials for children enable us to look to the future with sound expertise and always strike a balance between the traditional and the modern.

Educationally valuable

The play materials are certified educationally valuable. Children can develop particularly well and healthily through free play in a child-friendly environment. Using their own imagination to shape their play and find creative solutions strengthens them for the future. Cultivating rituals with friends and family gives children a sense of security and stability. Our play materials are inspired by alternative educational approaches such as Waldorf and Montessori, ... but especially by children themselves.

Playing is learning

Like our play materials, the furniture can support the Montessori-inspired educational approach of a child's room by allowing the child to move and play independently.

Many of our play materials have been awarded the ‘spiel gut’ seal of quality for special toys.

Safety & trust

All our play materials and play furniture are demonstrably safe. All colours and oils used are non-toxic, saliva-proof and therefore completely harmless.

Our special processing and treatment keeps the wooden surface open, which not only feels good, but also allows the wood to develop its superpowers and, by binding moisture, simply does not provide a breeding ground for bacteria to survive.

The safety of our play materials and play furniture is regularly verified by internal and external tests in accordance with the European and US standards for toy safety.

Naturalness & sustainability

From the very beginning, our company has attached great importance to naturalness and sustainability . Accordingly, we act responsibly towards people and the environment. Wood is renewable, robust and repairable. We use wood from sustainable forestry and preserve the natural properties of this special material during processing.

Naturalness right from the start

By treating the surface of the wood with varnish instead of lacquer, it remains open and the special velvety, rough GRIMM'S feel is created. This feel also has a positive effect on the building experience, because the building elements do not slip off each other so easily and even the little ones can celebrate a sense of achievement at an early age.

We deliberately refrain from sealing the surface of our furniture in order to preserve the warmth and naturalness of the radiant, light-coloured birch wood. However, we are also happy to provide recommendations for various possible surface finishes so that everyone can treat their furniture to suit their own living conditions.

In addition to the product itself, the term sustainability also includes the packaging, which we always handle according to the motto ‘as much as necessary and as little as possible’.

For us, sustainability also means that the materials are both durable, which is due to their quality, and can be used in different ways as the children get older so that they can be used for a long time to come.

Design & system

The deliberately minimalist design serves both aesthetics and function. All our play materials & furniture leave room for the imagination and also fit into a well thought-out system, which means that everything can be combined with everything else. This results in countless possible combinations when building and playing.

The whole family benefits from aesthetically pleasing play materials and children's furniture, because what the grown-ups like will also find a place in the living area where the whole family can spend time. What's more, adults can also enjoy playing again and again and immersing themselves in the here and now.

Cross-age diversity

Our product variety is cross-age and serves every age group - which is why we largely dispense with age recommendations. In our opinion, the individuality of each child makes a general recommendation based on age almost impossible. To make such a recommendation, you would have to know the child inside out. As the child's closest carers do this best, we are therefore happy to advise you to consider the child and their interests rather than just their age.

The play materials and furniture grow with the child, which means that the same product can be used in different ways depending on age, ability and interest. This makes them durable, versatile and sustainable companions for generations to come.

The individual themes complement and directly influence each other, which for us is a confirmation of our values and our path. Our play materials and furniture are our contribution to a childhood with plenty of space for free play in a child-friendly environment and thus to a future full of self-confident, resilient and solution-creative young and old people.
